Director of BERG

Tony Bridgwater is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Aston University in Birmingham, specialising in thermal conversion of biomass for production of fuels and chemicals. He obtained his first degree in Chemical Engineering from UMIST followed by his PhD and DSc from Aston. Most of his professional career has been spent at Aston University where he leads the Bio-Energy Research Group and heads the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry Department. His current interests are focused on the development of both the technologies for fast pyrolysis of biomass and the fuel and chemical products that can be derived from the liquids. While much support comes from the European Commission, he currently leads the SuperGen Biomass and Bioenergy Consortium supported by EPSRC. He also leads the biomass pyrolysis network - PyNe - sponsored by the EC and IEA Bioenergy. He has been actively involved in bio-energy for over 20 years and has published extensively.
